Puerto Natales

Highlights • Hiking for days through the Torres del Paine National Park. • Undertaking the Cabo Forward journey. • Horseback riding. Around the main square you’ll encounter zillions of tour offices, internet cafes and supermarkets. It’s a tourist town and a port city, so bear in mind that a lot of the smaller bars are also brothels. It’s also where the NAVIMAG cruise starts and/or ends and the closest jumping off point for visiting and hiking the Torres del Paine National Park. Good Grub & Beer Concerto Indigo: This is a hostel and restaurant. It’s a great place to eat and chill in Natales. It’s an old wooden building on the waterfront. The king crab dish for CHP$6,000 is excellent. The hostel is pretty pricey at CHP$15,000 given the size of the rooms. Loads of mags and newspapers to browse through. Cristal: Good food with good prices. We have an anecdote to add to this place with respect to the service. We’re both smokers… kinda heavy ones at that. Anyway, we don’t know if the service is like this during peak season, but when we were there we couldn’t, and we did try, to light our own cigarettes. The waiter, don’t know his name but at any rate he’s the big guy, magically transported himself to our side each time we were about to light up. El Asador Patagonico: Barbecued meat almost as good as they have in Argentina… almost. A good hunk of meat sets you back around CHP$5,000. El Living: Run and owned by an English couple. It’s a very good veggie restaurant with comfortable couches and great coffee. They also have a good book exchange. El Rincon del Tata: Good for pizza. El Maritimo: A lot of guide books recommend this place… but there is a good reason! The seafood is excellent and the view out to sea… Don’t worry, the prices are no higher than any other restaurant in town, and the portions are very big. La Remiseria: This is another good sandwich place. Masay: Good pizzas and excellent sandwiches for CHP$2,000 to CHP$3,000. Restaurant La Burbuja: Huge seafood dishes for between CHP$3,000 and CHP$5,000. There’re couches and a big fireplace. Ultima Esperanza: One of the better restaurants in town. A big seafood dish sets you back around CHP$4,000. The portions are impressive as is the quality.

Torres del Paine National Park | Puerto Natales
Parque Nacional Torres del Paine is internationally renowned as one of the most beautiful, unspoiled, and remote places on the planet, and, without a doubt, it’s one of the highlights of any Patagonian trip.
