EL BOLSON - BACK TO THE SIXTIES
In the seventies long haired Argentines and foreigners alike flocked to El Bolson to make the world a better place. It’s obviously not what it was in the 60´s, but neither is Freak Street in Kathmandu. There are still loads of genuine hippies hanging out there, but the town has also become a major tourist destination as a result of its 60´s image. Good Grub & Beer In terms of cuisine the specialty of El Bolson is obviously organic everything. Most of the restaurants are on the main street so you’ll always be able to find something open if you’re in need of a bite to eat. The best thing is that pretty much all of them have comfortable outdoor terraces. A couple restaurants we’d suggest you try are Cerro Lindo and Batuke. If one of them doesn’t catch your fancy then it’s never too far to walk to the other restaurants. Il Rizzo Pizza has good pizzas and a garden. Another nice place is Vattò which serves El Bolson beers and good food. If you’re looking for a restaurant just that bit more special try Patio Venzano which is a block from the main street. It’s a pleasant place with a nice garden and a big parrilla. Don’t forget that the factory for Jauja´s superb, world-renowned ice-cream, (okay, we’re exaggerating a bit), is right here in El Bolson next-door to the tourist office. Out front there’s a lovely terrace area for quick consumption of your purchase on a hot day. They also have a good restaurant that’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with homemade pasta and trout, and the dessert, being the specialty. Next door there’s also a new internet café. We’re not sure if the coffee is organic but the 1915 Café, just behind the tourist office on the main square, is a nice quiet place to get your morning dose of caffeine and a bite to eat. Ask for a serving of their toasted home made bread. The Guru Team |
