San Juan
This is a great place to take a break from switching buses every late evening to save on accommodation costs. The city is pretty modern architecturally as a result of two earthquakes in 1944 and in 1977 with the first claiming some 10,000 lives. All told, however, the place is a relaxed base from which you can visit the famous Valle de la Luna, Valley of the Moon, and try some wines and champagne given the city’s important role as a major wine producing centre in Argentina.
